How much does an airport transfer in Albania cost?
It depends on the route. Here's a realistic guide:
- TIA → Tirana city centre: €25–€35
- TIA → Durrës: €35–€45
- TIA → Vlora: €65–€85
- TIA → Himara / Dhermi: €99–€129
- TIA → Saranda / Ksamil: €129–€179

All Groundtier prices are fixed and confirmed at booking. No negotiation at the airport.
Q02 Pricing
How much is a transfer from Tirana Airport to Saranda?
A pre-booked private transfer from TIA to Saranda costs €129–€179 depending on vehicle type. Street taxis at the airport will quote a range — but unregulated pricing means peak-season arrivals often pay €180–€220 or more after negotiation. See our full Tirana to Saranda guide for a detailed breakdown.
Q03 Pricing
How much is a transfer from Tirana Airport to Ksamil?
Ksamil is approximately 20 minutes south of Saranda, making it one of the longer routes from TIA — around 300 km. Expect to pay €139–€179 for a pre-booked private transfer. Check exact current pricing on our booking page.
Q04 Pricing
How much is a transfer from Tirana Airport to Himara or Dhermi?
Himara is roughly 230 km from TIA — about 2.5 to 3 hours by road. Dhermi is slightly shorter. Pre-booked transfers to this area cost €99–€129. Both villages sit on the Albanian Riviera's most scenic stretch.
Booking & Payment
Q05 Booking
Can I pay by card for an airport transfer in Albania?
Yes — with Groundtier. We accept Visa and Mastercard. Payment is completed online when you book, so there's nothing to handle on arrival. Street taxis at Albanian airports are cash only — and cash in Lekë specifically, which means currency exchange if you're arriving from abroad.
Q06 Booking
How far in advance should I book?
At least 24 hours before arrival. In July and August, book as early as possible — quality drivers fill up quickly, especially for late-night arrivals and large groups. Last-minute bookings (under 6 hours) are not available.
Q07 Booking
Can I cancel my booking?
Yes. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup. Full refund to your original payment method within 5–10 business days. Cancellations within 24 hours incur a 50% fee. If your flight is cancelled by the airline, no cancellation fee applies — we offer free rebooking or a full refund.
Q08 Booking
How do I book a transfer with Groundtier?
Go to groundtier.com, enter your pickup location, destination, date, and number of passengers. Select your vehicle, complete the booking form with your flight number and contact details, and pay securely by card. You'll receive a confirmation email immediately. The whole process takes under 2 minutes.
Flight Delays & Operations
Q09 Practical
What happens if my flight is delayed?
Nothing — from your side. We monitor all flights in real time. If your flight is delayed, your driver's pickup time adjusts automatically. There is no extra charge for flight delays. Your driver will be waiting at arrivals when you land, regardless of how late you arrive. This is one of the most important differences between a pre-booked transfer and an airport taxi.
Q10 Practical
What if my driver doesn't show up?
This hasn't happened — but if it ever did, contact us immediately via WhatsApp or email. We will arrange an alternative driver or provide a full refund. You'll have our contact details in your booking confirmation before you travel.
Q11 Practical
How does the meet & greet work? Where do I find my driver?
Your driver will be waiting in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name on it. For TIA (Tirana Airport), the arrivals hall is immediately after the baggage claim exit. For VIA (Vlora Airport), the arrivals area is small and your driver will be clearly visible. You don't need to do anything — just walk out and look for your name.
Safety & Taxis
Q12 Safety
Is there Uber or Bolt in Albania?
No. As of 2026, Uber, Bolt, and all major ride-hailing apps are unavailable in Albania. This applies to Tirana, Vlora, Saranda, and every other city. There is no local equivalent either. See our full guide on transport apps in Albania for what modern travelers use instead.
Q13 Safety
Is it safe to take a taxi at Tirana Airport?
Albania is a safe country and airport taxis are generally not dangerous in terms of personal safety. The real issue is pricing. Airport taxi prices in Albania are completely unregulated. During peak summer, late-night arrivals, or if you appear unfamiliar with local rates, it's common to be quoted 2–3× the fair market price. Always agree on a price before getting in — and know that €25–€35 to Tirana city centre is the fair rate.
Q14 Safety
Is it safe to arrive at Tirana Airport at night?
Yes — Albania is safe at night. The airport itself is modern and well-lit. The main consideration for night arrivals is transport: fewer taxis are available, and those waiting know it. Prices for informal taxis at night can be significantly higher. A pre-booked transfer removes this entirely — your driver is confirmed, waiting, and the price is already agreed.
Q15 Safety
What's the real difference between a street taxi and a pre-booked transfer?
- Price certainty: Pre-booked = fixed. Taxi = negotiated on arrival.
- Flight tracking: Pre-booked = automatic. Taxi = driver may leave if you're late.
- English: Pre-booked drivers are required to speak English. Street taxis vary.
- Child seats: Pre-booked = included free. Street taxis = almost never available.
- Payment: Pre-booked = card online. Taxi = cash in Lekë.
- Accountability: Pre-booked = confirmed booking with contact details. Taxi = anonymous.
Family Travel & Practicalities
Q16 Family
Are child seats available for Albania airport transfers?
Yes — and they're free of charge with Groundtier. We provide:
- Infant carrier: 0–6 months
- Child seat: 6 months–3 years
- Booster seat: 3–12 years
Q17 Practical
How much luggage can I bring?
Sedan (1–3 passengers): Up to 3 standard suitcases (23 kg each) plus 3 carry-on items.

Q18 Practical
Do you offer transfers for larger groups?
Yes. Our minivan option accommodates up to 7 passengers with standard luggage. For groups larger than 7, contact us directly at contact@groundtier.com and we'll arrange a solution.
Q19 Practical
What type of vehicle will I get?
All Groundtier vehicles are clean, well-maintained, and professionally presented. Sedan for 1–3 passengers. Minivan for 4–7 passengers. If the assigned vehicle becomes unavailable, we substitute with an equal or higher quality vehicle — never lower.
Q20 Practical
Do drivers speak English?
Yes. All Groundtier drivers speak functional English and are trained in international customer service standards. They'll greet you by name, assist with luggage, and handle the journey professionally without requiring you to manage communication.
Q21 Practical
Should I tip my driver?
Tipping is optional and never expected — your transfer price is all-inclusive. If your driver provided exceptional service, a tip of €5–€10 is always appreciated. It can be given in cash directly to the driver at the end of the journey.
Routes & Airports
Q22 Practical
Do you serve Vlora International Airport (VIA)?
Yes. Groundtier operates from both Tirana International Airport (TIA) and Vlora International Airport (VIA). VIA opened in 2026 and significantly reduces travel time to the Albanian Riviera — Saranda is approximately 90 minutes from VIA versus 3.5–4.5 hours from TIA. See our Vlora Airport guide for details.
Q23 Practical
How long is the drive from Tirana Airport to Tirana city centre?
Approximately 30–45 minutes for the 25 km journey under normal conditions. During rush hour (8–9am, 5–7pm) or peak summer weekends, allow up to 60 minutes. Your driver will take the most efficient route based on live traffic.
Q24 Practical
What's the best way to get from Tirana Airport to the Albanian Riviera?
A pre-booked private transfer is the only reliable door-to-door option. There are no direct buses from TIA to Riviera destinations. The drive to Vlora takes 2–2.5 hours; Himara and Dhermi are 2.5–3 hours; Saranda and Ksamil are 3.5–4.5 hours. See our complete Albania getting around guide for all transport options.
Q25 Practical
Do you offer transfers from Tirana to Kosovo, Montenegro, or North Macedonia?
Cross-border transfers are available on request. Contact us at contact@groundtier.com with your route and travel date and we'll confirm availability and pricing. Popular cross-border routes include TIA → Prishtina (Kosovo) and TIA → Podgorica (Montenegro).
