Albania Airport Transfer FAQ: 25 Questions, Answered Honestly

A pre-booked private transfer from TIA to Saranda costs €129–€179 depending on vehicle type. Street taxis at the airport will quote a range — but unregulated pricing means peak-season arrivals often pay €180–€220 or more after negotiation. Ksamil is approximately 20 minutes south of Saranda, making it one of the longer routes from TIA — around 300 km. Expect to pay €139–€179 for a pre-booked private transfer. Check exact current pricing on our booking page.

Himara is roughly 230 km from TIA — about 2.5 to 3 hours by road. Dhermi is slightly shorter. Pre-booked transfers to this area cost €99–€129. Both villages sit on the Albanian Riviera's most scenic stretch.

Yes — with Groundtier. We accept Visa and Mastercard. Payment is completed online when you book, so there's nothing to handle on arrival. Street taxis at Albanian airports are cash only — and cash in Lekë specifically, which means currency exchange if you're arriving from abroad.

At least 24 hours before arrival. In July and August, book as early as possible — quality drivers fill up quickly, especially for late-night arrivals and large groups. Last-minute bookings (under 6 hours) are not available.

Yes. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup. Full refund to your original payment method within 5–10 business days. Cancellations within 24 hours incur a 50% fee. If your flight is cancelled by the airline, no cancellation fee applies — we offer free rebooking or a full refund.

Go to groundtier.com, enter your pickup location, destination, date, and number of passengers. Select your vehicle, complete the booking form with your flight number and contact details, and pay securely by card. You'll receive a confirmation email immediately. The whole process takes under 2 minutes.

Nothing — from your side. We monitor all flights in real time. If your flight is delayed, your driver's pickup time adjusts automatically. There is no extra charge for flight delays. Your driver will be waiting at arrivals when you land, regardless of how late you arrive. This is one of the most important differences between a pre-booked transfer and an airport taxi.

This hasn't happened — but if it ever did, contact us immediately via WhatsApp or email. We will arrange an alternative driver or provide a full refund. You'll have our contact details in your booking confirmation before you travel.

Your driver will be waiting in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name on it. For TIA (Tirana Airport), the arrivals hall is immediately after the baggage claim exit. For VIA (Vlora Airport), the arrivals area is small and your driver will be clearly visible. You don't need to do anything — just walk out and look for your name.

Albania is a safe country and airport taxis are generally not dangerous in terms of personal safety. The real issue is pricing. Airport taxi prices in Albania are completely unregulated. During peak summer, late-night arrivals, or if you appear unfamiliar with local rates, it's common to be quoted 2–3× the fair market price. Always agree on a price before getting in — and know that €25–€35 to Tirana city centre is the fair rate.

Yes — Albania is safe at night. The airport itself is modern and well-lit. The main consideration for night arrivals is transport: fewer taxis are available, and those waiting know it. Prices for informal taxis at night can be significantly higher. A pre-booked transfer removes this entirely — your driver is confirmed, waiting, and the price is already agreed.

Yes. All Groundtier drivers speak functional English and are trained in international customer service standards. They'll greet you by name, assist with luggage, and handle the journey professionally without requiring you to manage communication.

Tipping is optional and never expected — your transfer price is all-inclusive. If your driver provided exceptional service, a tip of €5–€10 is always appreciated. It can be given in cash directly to the driver at the end of the journey.

Yes. Groundtier operates from both Tirana International Airport (TIA) and Vlora International Airport (VIA). VIA opened in 2026 and significantly reduces travel time to the Albanian Riviera — Saranda is approximately 90 minutes from VIA versus 3.5–4.5 hours from TIA. Approximately 30–45 minutes for the 25 km journey under normal conditions. During rush hour (8–9am, 5–7pm) or peak summer weekends, allow up to 60 minutes. Your driver will take the most efficient route based on live traffic.

A pre-booked private transfer is the only reliable door-to-door option. There are no direct buses from TIA to Riviera destinations.
